Getting a Full Reservation List, Part 2

chefIn Part 1, we explored some of the aspects of search engine optimization and how it can help your restaurant bring in more business. We will continue with this and look at some methods that help SEO work for you. Opening a restaurant blossoms from a love of food and cooking. Probably more than one of your friends has said, “You should open a restaurant!” Cooking is a creative process, and though it may not seem likely, so is Internet marketing. Successful online marketing requires a mix of ingredients that when brought together, form the perfect combination of successful marketing online.

Behind the Scenes

To make a website successful, a web design must be attractive, easy to navigate, and engaging. Creating a website requires knowledge of different coding languages of course, but it also requires creativity and listening skills in order to get just the right “feel” that the client is looking for. When the client is a restaurant, this is especially important. You certainly don’t want a website that presents a hip-hop, party-on restaurant when what you offer is a quiet, romantic dinner for two atmosphere. At Axiom Internet Marketing, we work with you to be sure that your website reflects the ambiance of your business.

A perfect looking website isn’t any good if no one sees it, and this is what positioning SEO does. Nearly all SEO takes place behinds the scenes where website visitors don’t see it and few are aware of. In Part 1 we already discussed the basic methods used by web crawlers to rank websites. Now we will go cover things that the crawlers look for.

The Popularity Gamepopularity

As already mentioned, page ranking is a popularity contest. Part of how a web crawler knows how popular you are is by how many connections, or back links, you have with other websites. A back link is a link to your website that is on another website. The more back links you have on other related websites, the more popular, or authoritative, the crawlers will view your site. You need to be back linked to websites that are related to yours in some way. In the case of a restaurant, having a link from a food critic’s website, or perhaps a site that sells fresh produce linking to your site because you use their fresh products. Being linked to review sites such as Google+, Yelp, or Zagat is a great boost to page ranking. However, back links that are not related to your business will probably be ignored by web crawlers. For instance, a link for your website on a site that sells lumber, probably isn’t going to make the list.

In addition to popularity, search engines provide results that best fit the query parameters. So, if you are an Italian restaurant in Chicago and someone does a search for one in New York city, your site isn’t going to come up, no matter how popular you are.

Social Media

Using social media marketing strategies also help to make your site more popular. Having a page on Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, or other social media sites can add a boost to your page ranking. Encourage customers to check out your page, leave a review and share. This provides a word-of-mouth type of advertising and people trust it because it comes from people who they know or have actually been to yelp reviewyour establishment.

Creating a blog for your restaurant and posting on it regularly can bring web crawlers to your page, as there is nothing that they like more than new content on a website. Blog creation doesn’t have to be complicated and the blogs don’t have to be long and drawn out. Just some short news about the restaurant is good, or you can use it as a place to advertise daily specials and the like.

Axiom Internet Marketing is an SEO company that has the experience, knowledge and skill to bring your restaurant to page one in search engine rankings. We will work with you to create the kind of website that reflects you and your restaurant and then we will do the rest using the best behind the scenes methods available.

Getting a Full Reservation List, Part 1

reservationsYou had a dream for a long time and you finally made it come true. You have opened your own restaurant. It’s possible that you hadn’t thought everything through to the smallest detail about running a restaurant. You have found that there is a lot more to it than creating fabulous food and paying the rent. You and/or your manager are making things work together great and you’re even making a small profit. You have some loyal customers, but to feel really successful, you need to be bringing in more customers.

Attracting New Customers

Running ads and coupons in your local newspapers can always bring in new customers and it can be a great way to make yourself known to the local area. However, in this age of electronic connectedness, you also need to have a presence on the Internet. You need to have an attractive website that will bring new diners to your doorstep. A web design also needs to be easy for visitors to navigate and find the information they are looking for.

These days, almost anyone can create a website using one of the many programs available on the Internet. They may work okay for some, but for the most part, they are a “one size fits all” set up. Certainly, you can customize them to a certain degree, but based on the very nature of the service, there is a limit to what a program can do for you and your business.

To create a successful online presence for your restaurant, you need an SEO company such as Axiom Internet Marketing that knows how to design a website that is just as unique as your restaurant.

If you already have a website, but it isn’t bringing in the kind of business you want, then we can help you as well.

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is something of the Holy Grail. The successful use of SEO is what brings business to your doorstep and to do it well takes experience. Knowing how to design a website takes a thorough understanding of how search engines work and how best to take advantage of that to get your restaurant to the first page of an organic search (appearance on the first page that you don’t pay for).  restaurant

In easy terms, the point of SEO is to make your website more popular than the others in your category. Each search engine uses an algorithm that assigns “points” to different aspects of a website. The more points, the higher up a website appears in page rankings. Search engines use different algorithms, but the principle is the same.

Search engines send out web crawlers, or spiders, across the World Wide Web and they look at every website and most every word on those websites and create an index for later information retrieval – such as when someone makes an inquiry. Along with other factors, the more times a spider comes across your website, the higher it is placed in page rankings.

In simplified terms, the spider begins with the most used servers and well-liked pages and indexes the words and each link located on the site. The spider then makes use of the links and follows them to other sites, moving outward like a spider web.

Online marketing and search engine optimization is an intricate process that requires extensive knowledge and skill about how to make a website work for your restaurant. Axiom Internet Marketing has what you need to get to the first page of search results when someone is looking for your type of restaurant. We use every modern method available to bring more patrons into your business including blog creation and social media networking. Call us today for a free consultation and learn how we can help you get a full reservation list.

In Part 2 we will further examine SEO and online marketing methods.

Connecting With Patients, Part 2

old time doctorConnect (verb) 1. Link two things 2. Associate someone or something with another: to make a psychological or emotional association between people. As doctors, it is important that to make that emotional attachment with patients. It will not only be good for patients, it will be good for doctors’ wellbeing as well.

In Part 1 we discussed reasons for the decline in positive doctor/patient relationships and that research has shown that a person’s attitude can have an effect on their health. We also touched on the fact that the medical community is moving toward a more holistic approach to patient treatment.

Making the Connection

Noticing how a patient feels emotionally is an essential part of connecting with them. Patients want to trust and feel comfortable with their doctors. Acknowledging how a patient feels creates a strong connection.

Patients want and deserve a physician that will talk to them and explain their condition to them. Some patients are proactive when it comes to their treatment and will ask questions. Many other patients are intimidated and fail to actively participate in their care. It is up to the physician to let them know that it is okay to speak up and that no question is unimportant. Patients want to feel that they are valued and respected.

Most of all, patients want to feel as though you actually care about them and their health and that you aren’t thinking about how quickly you can get out of the examination room.

Empathy is the Key

Genuine empathy can help empower and engage patients. Empathy can help patients feel valued and respected doctors and patientand encourage them to become active participants in their own health and wellbeing. By listening and acknowledging their emotional state, doctors can engage their patients in a way that is mutually beneficial.

Connect on a Personal Level

Fifty to sixty years ago, everyone in the family saw the same doctor and he would know the family dynamics. These days, things are not as simple and in part, it is up to the physician to learn more about his patient beyond the fact that they are a body that has lower back pain or psoriasis. It is vital to see that body as a person. You can be certain that the patient will notice.

In this digital age, doctors have the opportunity to connect on a personal level with patients through the Internet. Connecting through social media builds on the relationship established in the exam room. Having the ability to engage a doctor and his staff through social media empowers them to be more proactive about their health care. A patient may be experiencing a health problem but isn’t sure it warrants taking time off of work to visit the office. In a case like this, they could simply send an email stating their concern and learn if a visit is needed. Interacting with the doctor’s office through the Internet will give the patient a feeling of connection and that their health care needs are being met.

happy patientEngaging and connecting with patients is important to patient health. Providing them with respect and compassion gives them the motivation to participate in their own health care decisions. Not only will patients become healthier and happier, doctors will also benefit by returning to the reason they became doctors in the first place.

Connecting With Patients, Part 1

Doctor greating patientConnect: verb 1. To join together or to become joined. 2. To establish communications, establish a relationship. When it comes to connecting with patients, we want to adhere to the second definition.

A Current State of Affairs

Our health care system has been evolving for many years. Both doctors and patients are exposed to constant changes, generated by new laws and regulations and methods of insurance or the lack of it. In some cases, doctors have had to reduce the time they spend with each patient so that they can adjust to the ever-changing number of demands on their practice.

With the shortened amount of time, doctors have with each patient, medical care has become less personalized and more like an assembly line. It is not unlikely to see that waiting times have increased, and examination times have decreased.

A Bad Reputation

Due to these circumstances, some medical practices are receiving a bad reputation. Most patients want to feel that their doctor is caring and spends an adequate amount of time during the office visit, and overall medical care.humanity

Bringing Back the Humanity

Despite the restrictions placed on physicians these days, they must find ways to maintain and nourish the human need when treating patients.

There is a positive trend toward a more holistic view of patient care. Doctors are more effective when they evaluate the patient as a whole.  Caring for the wellbeing of the mind as well as the body produces better treatment results.

Scientific Authentication

It has been scientifically proven that negative emotions such as stress and depression affect health. It makes sense then that the opposite would be true. However, that has yet to be proven. Making people sad for research is easier than making them happy, apparently.

While having a good attitude hasn’t been proven to provide good health, there are thousands of research articles about how the mind affects the body. Science is starting to recognize the mind-body connection and it is no longer designated to new-age quackery. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been provided for research of the mind-body connection.

happy girlIt is no secret that when we are happy, we feel good. When we are feeling poorly, our spirits drop. This is not to say that the power of positive thinking can cure all ills, but it cannot hurt either.
