Google is Moving To A “Mobile First Index” in 2018

Google has become more transparent in telling web designers and internet marketing agencies how they go about ranking websites. Since 2015, a website’s “mobile-friendliness” has affected ranking performance across a variety of devices (including laptops, tablets and smart phones). Now, more than ever, Google is determined to focus on ranking sites based on their mobile experience. Web designers and digital marketing solutions must focus on delivering the fastest, most accessible desktop, laptop and mobile-friendly experience achievable.

A Google release was very upfront about this-

“…. our algorithms will primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from that site, to understand structured data, and to show snippets from those pages in our results. Of course, while our index will be built from mobile documents, we’re going to continue to build a great search experience for all users, whether they come from mobile or desktop devices. If you have a responsive site or a dynamic serving site where the primary content and markup is equivalent across mobile and desktop, you shouldn’t have to change anything.

The last sentence in that quote should get your attention. Cheap web design and shoddy SEO techniques

may have been acceptable in the past, but not now. If you are not using expert web design, a responsive and dynamic site that looks great on all devices, professional SEO services designed for small business SEO, your competition will, and Google will rank those pages higher than yours.

Now is the best time to discover what professional SEO services and small business SEO can do for your small business branding strategy. AXIOM understands the needs of small businesses, professional practices and nonprofits. Please visit AXIOM’s small business services page by clicking the link or call Axiom at 800-888-6348.

Local Trades and Services

SEOWe still encounter some service providers or skilled tradesmen who feel that the internet is not the place for them. We could not disagree more! The internet is exactly the right place for you to establish your branding strategies using the digital marketing solutions and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services that AXIOM can provide. AXIOM offers a full range of marketing tools from a logo design service

to direct mail marketing and direct mail advertising, but we understand that the future will depend more and more on digital marketing solutions.

Imagine this very realistic situation- you get up one morning and find that your bathroom toilet will not flush. A quick ‘fix it myself’ effort fails to solve the problem. The pipe is totally blocked. How are you going to get a plumber quickly? In the past, most people would look in the “Yellow Pages” or ask a friend or neighbor. Today, most people are going to their iPhone or Android device and entering a search term like, “Plumbers in zip code 32114” or “Plumbers in Ormond Beach.”

That is how most contacts with service providers or tradespeople start today. If your business does not show up when your potential customers search, “plumbers in zip….,” they are not going to get a chance to consider your business. In a way, this search culture works in favor of small, local businesses; you do not have to beat out Roto Router, USA.  You only need to be seen in your close-knit community, a small neighborhood or just a zip code.

If you have had a bad experience with cheap web design in the past, put that behind you! Take a look at what AXIOM can do for you by clicking AXIOM and LOCAL TRADES. Then find out more by going to Axiom Administrative Services or by calling Axiom at 800-888-6348.

How to get your website noticed by smartphone users

smartphone useRecently, we came across an amazing statistic. According to Flurry Analytics, a company that specializes in analyzing consumer interactions with mobile applications, the average American now spends five hours a day using his or her smartphone. This estimate sounds a little high to us, but no one can deny the incredible rise of smartphone use. According to Flurry, the average American now spends more time with their smartphone than watching TV.

In the daily lives of many Americans, ‘apps’ have now replaced stations or channels. This has huge importance for all advertisers, including local businesses or service providers. It means that big-budget, professionally produced video ads are less likely to be viewed then an amateur YouTube video that goes viral. As Flurry puts it, “Apps have grown more popular than watching TV — something that speaks to users’ interest in apps for more than just utility.”

The key to getting your small business or professional practice noticed by smartphone users is a compelling visual presentation. A static website must still be the foundation of your branding strategy, and you must still have a sound SEO strategy. That is the place users go when they are seeking basic information like a business’ phone number or map directions.

However, Flurry also reports that U.S. users are spending huge amounts of time in social media, messaging and media and entertainment applications. Facebook, the leader in smartphone time, holds a 19 percent share of the smartphone usage clock. Facebook is more than a site for looking at baby pictures or videos of your last party. It is also where users go to shop for shoes; they can see 3, 4 or 20 different styles on actual feet. It is where they go to see how a CPA would use QuickBooks to help their small business or to watch a walking tour of a house for sale.

In short, audio and visual presentations are the best way to draw attention to your small business, professional practice or service business. Axiom Administrative Services can provide professional help in producing these video presentations, placing them on Facebook, YouTube and Snapchat (the new and rising social media), and linking them to your other internet marketing vehicles. Social media plus video equals a more memorable, compelling result. See how by clicking on AXIOM VIDEO IN FACEBOOK.

About Those Do-It-Yourselfers

mobile friendlyTelevision and the internet are filled with commercials claiming that you can have a beautiful website up and running in just minutes, even if you have no web experience. If you have visited YouTube in the last few weeks, you have almost certainly seen a beautiful young woman telling you that she just put up her own website “in just minutes” and it looks great! Well, she looks great and I bet that her website looks pretty good too. But, I suspect that she had a little help with the product.

Earlier this year, AXIOM put up an article about “Do-It-Yourself” websites, and you might be surprised to learn that we think the DIYs have a definite place in the web spectrum. If your webpage is a hobby, a family site or personal use effort, then a do it yourself effort may be worthwhile. On the other hand, if you need to reach the maximum possible audience with a compelling message and a reason to use your product, service or professional practice, it will pay to turn to a professional online marketing consultant. Axiom Administrative Services can handle:

  • SEO (search engine optimization)
  • Web Design – professionally done by expert web designers and graphic design artists
  • Internet Marketing Strategies created by professionals
  • Email Marketing Services, email campaigns and direct mail

Can a do-it-yourself web design be effective?  Well, yes. If your needs and purposes are limited and personal, DIY may work for you.  If you are serious about promoting your business, professional practice, nonprofit or other organization through internet marketing, you would be better served by the web services and web design provided by professionals like AXIOM. AXIOM understands the needs of small businesses, professional practices and nonprofits. Please visit AXIOM’s small business services page by clicking the link or call Axiom at 800-888-6348.

Mobile Marketing and Web Responsiveness

mobile friendlyDo you remember the VCR, the CD, the cassette tape or the BetaMax? Technology now changes so quickly that last weeks ‘cutting edge’ devices became obsolete yesterday.  Ten years ago, a waiting room might have been full of people pecking away on their laptops as they waited for an appointment. Today they are bent over their smartphones searching for something, say a place to eat lunch or to get a haircut after the appointment is finished.

Several years ago, the number of web searches done on mobile devices overtook and now far surpasses the number done on conventional computers. This is a huge boon to merchants, service providers and customers who can now find each other ‘on-the-fly’ rather than having to return to a desk to locate a product or service. Mobile marketing has changed the internet advertising and digital marketing worlds. Successful web marketing now requires effective mobile marketing. This means that today’s digital marketing requires not just an attractive website and effective search engine marketing, but also the quality of ‘responsiveness.’

Responsive web design, sometimes called RWD, involves designing a single website, located at a single web address that can be viewed and used equally well on a variety of devices. The same website must be useful when viewed on wide-screen desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones. These devices include a wide range of screen sizes, orientations and resolutions. The website must detect the type of device being used and ‘respond’ by supplying text, pictures and graphics appropriate to the device. Audio and online video marketing content must also look and sound properly on the mobile device.

What you need to know about digital marketing and web marketing is this: responsiveness and good mobile marketing are essential! If your website is not mobile friendly, your web marketing effort is missing more than half of the target audience.

Radio, television and the internet are all filled with advertisements for DIY websites from companies like Wix, iPage and others. There is certainly a place for these do-it-yourself efforts, but if you want maximum effect from your digital marketing and internet marketing dollars, a professional online marketing consultant is your best option.

A successful internet marketing strategy must have several elements. Being mobile marketing friendly with responsive web design is one of those elements, but there are several others. Good digital marketing includes well-produced online video marketing, professional search engine optimization (SEO), well-managed social network and social media marketing, as well as, a sound overall digital marketing plan.

If you are struggling with your internet marketing and online advertising problems, it would pay to turn to a professional online marketing consultant. Axiom Administrative Services has the professional digital marketing skills needed to guide your web presence to the rankings it should have. Axiom is more than an internet marketing agency. Our digital marketing and business marketing teams are able to combine traditional marketing techniques like printing and direct mail with creative web services.
